Sharman and Armstrong blast through their learning!
In maths, we have been exploring, comparing and ordering numbers within 100. This has included placing numbers in increasing and decreasing order, knowing what ten more or ten less is than a given number, counting on and back in tens from 2 digit numbers and counting in steps of 2, 3 and 5 from zero. Recently, we have been expanding on children’s understanding of number bonds within 20 which will lead onto mental addition and subtraction calculations!
In literacy we have been exploring space using non-fiction texts. We have read the biographies of Neil Armstrong and Helen Sharman and written diaries entries as astronauts living on the International Space Station. We are currently working on journalistic writing as we report about NASA’s space shuttle Discovery, and write up our interviews with an astronaut.
We have been researching the change the seasons bring in science outdoors and exploring the cycle of the seasonal year.
In art we have been discovering Picasso’s famous paintings and closely studied his cubism style as the children endeavoured to recreate their own three dimensional master pieces filled with different colourful geometric shapes for a portrait!
In PSHE we have been discussing the importance of friendship, kindness and courtesy through stories and role plays.
Our music lessons have got off to a soaring start with everybody learning new and exciting songs from Miss Pippa; pupils and teachers. Sharman and Armstrong have come together, excelling in our combined effort to master ‘in the Autumn.’
