Year 1 Half Term Update

Tuesday 20 October 2015

The new academic year has started brilliantly with the new Year One settling in comfortably and speedily. As the winter weather will soon be approaching we have taken full advantage of the sunny days by taking our learning outside. The Year One classes joined to perform races, helping to deepen their understanding of ordinal numbers, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Many of the children also got to record the winners of the races on our new IPads. We also went on an exciting noun hunt where there were hidden nouns taken from our current story book ‘The Lonely Beast’, which we are covering in English. They became actors and actresses whilst exploring the lives of Emmeline Pankhurst and Mary Seacole and developed their new knowledge of voting by voting for the candidates for school council and playground buddies. Vincent Van Gogh has been our focus in Art lessons and the children have been endeavouring to use his techniques by creating their own sunflower painting, which will soon be on display. We are really excited to be having our first Year One trip to the V&A Museum of Childhood, which links closely to our Humanities topic of toys from different eras including our own favourite toys. We look forward to the exciting adventures that the rest of the year will bring us and seeing the children excel with their learning.
