Y3 at the British Museum
Year 3 visited the British Museum to witness first-hand the artefacts we have been learning about in class. The visit focused on Ancient Greece. Gropus discussed, sketched, recorded and answered questions about the Parthenon marbles, the stories depicted on Greek vessels and how the Rosetta stone helped solve the mystery of Egyptian hieroglyphics. Children were even able to compare the facade of the British Museum to that of the Parthenon and to draw conclusions about how significant monuments are built. After hours of wandering in the Museum's labyrinthine corridors (thankfully no encounters with a Minotaur!), we ate our sandwiches and felt adequately fortified to negotiate the busy Picadilly line. A special thanks goes to our dedicated parent volunteers, without whose help the visit would not have been possible.
