Y2 learn about Canals and Rivers in the UK thanks to the Canal and River Trust

Monday 01 April 2019

On Thursday 28th March 2019, Year Two took part in a workshop with the Canal and River Trust linked to their topic for this half term. The children learnt all about canals, how they were built and what they were used for. They explored different materials that used to be transported on the canals and looked at the clothing that people who worked on the canals wore. Through drama, they  explored how the canal was built and how they used to get the horse drawn canal boats through tunnels. The children enjoyed the object handling session and the opportunity for some of them to dress up. This workshop was followed by a water safety assembly for Year 2 and 3, ahead of their trips to the Grand Union Canal and river Thames.
